Escape velocity
Summary
The escape velocity at a point is the least speed that a body needs there to move away from a massive body for ever. No further push is needed after that. At distance from the centre of a spherically symmetric body of mass it equals . It separates bound elliptic orbits from open parabolic and hyperbolic ones. See the definition.
