Følner sequence
Builds on GroupSymmetric difference
Definition
Let be a countable group. For and , let , and let denote the symmetric difference. A (left) Følner sequence in is a sequence of finite nonempty subsets of such that
Remarks
Example: in , take . For and , the sets and differ in exactly points. So the ratio is , which tends to , and is a Følner sequence. In the same way the cubes form a Følner sequence in .
Non-example: in , the singletons do not form a Følner sequence. For , the sets and are disjoint, so the ratio is for every .
A countable group has a Følner sequence if and only if it satisfies the Følner condition. For a locally compact group with left Haar measure , one uses compact sets with . The condition is then for every . Often the convergence is asked to be uniform for in compact sets.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
