Filtration
Builds on Probability spaceSigma-algebra
Definition
Let be a probability space, and let be a totally ordered index set, such as , or . A filtration is a family of sigma-algebras on such that:
- for every ;
- whenever and .
The quadruple is a filtered probability space.
Remarks
Example: for a stochastic process , the natural filtration is , the smallest -algebra for which all with are measurable. If , every generator of is a generator of , so clause 2 holds.
Non-example: let be a random variable that is not almost surely constant, so that . On , the family , fails clause 2, since : information would be forgotten.
In continuous time one often assumes the usual conditions: contains all -null sets of the completion of , and the filtration is right-continuous, that is for every .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
