Finitely generated module
Definition
Let be a ring with identity element and let be a left module over . The module is finitely generated when there are such that each is
Remarks
Over a field, the finitely generated modules are the finite-dimensional vector spaces. and are finitely generated over ; the group is not. Over a Noetherian ring, each submodule of a finitely generated module is finitely generated. The finitely generated modules over a principal ideal domain are classified by the structure theorem.
Explanations

A module is finitely generated when finitely many elements produce all others by linear combinations. This is the module analogue of a finite-dimensional vector space. Unlike in vector spaces, the generators need not be independent.
What this node needs for W2
- edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
- edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
