Fourier number

Summary

The Fourier number Fo=αt/L2\mathrm{Fo} = \alpha t / L^2 is the dimensionless time of heat conduction. Here α\alpha is the thermal diffusivity, tt is time, and LL is a length of the body. It compares the time elapsed with the time heat needs to diffuse across the body. For bodies of the same shape with the same dimensionless initial and boundary data, solutions of the heat equation depend on time only through Fo\mathrm{Fo}.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
