Fréchet space
Builds on Locally convex spaceF-space
Definition
Let be or . A Fréchet space over is a topological vector space over that is both locally convex and an F-space.
Remarks
Equivalently, the topology of is generated by a countable family of seminorms that separates points, and is complete. From such seminorms one gets a translation-invariant metric that induces the topology. Example: the space of continuous real functions with the seminorms is a Fréchet space. A sequence that is Cauchy for all converges uniformly on each , and the limit is continuous. Every Banach space is a Fréchet space. Non-example: with is an F-space but is not locally convex, so it is not a Fréchet space. Some older texts use the name Fréchet space for what is here called an F-space.
