Definition

Let AA be an algebra in which every operation has arity at least 11. A fuzzy subset of AA is a function μ ⁣:A→[0,1]\mu \colon A \to [0, 1]; the number μ(a)\mu(a) is the degree of membership of aa. A fuzzy subset μ\mu is a fuzzy subalgebra of AA if μ(f(a1,…,an))≥min⁡{μ(a1),…,μ(an)}\mu(f(a_1, \dots, a_n)) \ge \min\set{\mu(a_1), \dots, \mu(a_n)} for every operation ff of AA of arity nn and all a1,…,an∈Aa_1, \dots, a_n \in A. For a group GG with the operations (x,y)↦xy(x, y) \mapsto xy and x↦x−1x \mapsto x^{-1}, a fuzzy subalgebra is a fuzzy subgroup: μ(xy)≥min⁡{μ(x),μ(y)}\mu(xy) \ge \min\set{\mu(x), \mu(y)} and μ(x−1)≥μ(x)\mu(x^{-1}) \ge \mu(x) for all x,y∈Gx, y \in G.

Remarks

A fuzzy subset μ\mu is a fuzzy subalgebra if and only if each level set μt={a∈A:μ(a)≥t}\mu_t = \set{a \in A : \mu(a) \ge t}, for t∈[0,1]t \in [0, 1], is empty or a subalgebra. Indeed, if a1,…,an∈μta_1, \dots, a_n \in \mu_t then min⁡iμ(ai)≥t\min_i \mu(a_i) \ge t; conversely, apply the condition on μt\mu_t with t=min⁡iμ(ai)t = \min_i \mu(a_i). A fuzzy subset that takes only the values 00 and 11 is a fuzzy subalgebra exactly when {a:μ(a)=1}\set{a : \mu(a) = 1} is empty or a subalgebra.

Example: on the group (ℤ,+)(\Z, +) let μ(n)=1\mu(n) = 1 for even nn and μ(n)=1/2\mu(n) = 1/2 for odd nn. If mm or nn is odd, the minimum is 1/21/2 and μ(m+n)≥1/2\mu(m + n) \ge 1/2 holds; if both are even, m+nm + n is even and μ(m+n)=1\mu(m + n) = 1. Also −n-n has the parity of nn, so μ(−n)=μ(n)\mu(-n) = \mu(n). So μ\mu is a fuzzy subgroup.

Non-example: on (ℤ,+)(\Z, +) let μ(1)=1\mu(1) = 1 and μ(n)=0\mu(n) = 0 for n≠1n \ne 1. Then μ(1+1)=0<1=min⁡{μ(1),μ(1)}\mu(1 + 1) = 0 < 1 = \min\set{\mu(1), \mu(1)}, so μ\mu is not a fuzzy subgroup.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
