Fuzzy measure

Builds on Measure

Definition

Let XX be a set and let ๐’ž\mathcal{C} be a family of subsets of XX with โˆ…โˆˆ๐’ž\emptyset \in \mathcal{C}. A fuzzy measure on (X,๐’ž)(X, \mathcal{C}) is a map gโ€‰โฃ:๐’žโ†’[0,โˆž]g \colon \mathcal{C} \to [0, \infty] such that:

  1. g(โˆ…)=0g(\emptyset) = 0.
  2. If E,Fโˆˆ๐’žE, F \in \mathcal{C} and EโІFE \subseteq F, then g(E)โ‰คg(F)g(E) \le g(F).

If Xโˆˆ๐’žX \in \mathcal{C} and g(X)=1g(X) = 1, the fuzzy measure is normalised.

Remarks

Often ๐’ž\mathcal{C} is a ฯƒ\sigma-algebra or the set of all subsets of a finite set XX. Example: let ฮผ\mu be a probability measure on a ฯƒ\sigma-algebra ๐’ž\mathcal{C} and g(E)=ฮผ(E)2g(E) = \mu(E)^2. Then g(โˆ…)=0g(\emptyset) = 0, and gg is monotone because ฮผ\mu is monotone and squaring is increasing on [0,1][0, 1]. It is not additive: if ฮผ(E)=ฮผ(F)=1/2\mu(E) = \mu(F) = 1/2 with EโˆฉF=โˆ…E \cap F = \emptyset, then g(E)+g(F)=1/2g(E) + g(F) = 1/2 but g(EโˆชF)=1g(E \cup F) = 1. Non-example: g(E)=ฮผ(E)โˆ’ฮผ(E)2g(E) = \mu(E) - \mu(E)^2 vanishes on โˆ…\emptyset, but it is not monotone: g(E)=1/4g(E) = 1/4 for ฮผ(E)=1/2\mu(E) = 1/2, while g(X)=0g(X) = 0. Every measure is a fuzzy measure.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
