Statement
Let be a Dirichlet character and let be its Dirichlet L-function, continued to all of . Then every zero of with satisfies .
Remarks
The conjecture is open. For the principal character modulo , is the Riemann zeta function, so the conjecture contains the Riemann hypothesis. The extended Riemann hypothesis makes the same claim for the Dedekind zeta function of every number field. The conjecture implies that there is no Siegel zero. It also implies for all and all coprime to , with an absolute implied constant. Under the conjecture, the Miller test becomes a deterministic primality test: it suffices to test the bases , a bound of Bach. The Bombieri–Vinogradov theorem proves an average form of these consequences without any hypothesis.
