Definition
Let be a variety of algebras and let . Gumm terms for are ternary terms and such that satisfies the following identities:
- .
- for every .
- for every even .
- for every odd .
- .
- .
Remarks
A variety has Gumm terms if and only if it is a congruence-modular variety. Example: if is a Mal'cev term, then , and are Gumm terms, since and . Example: lattices have Gumm terms with , , and . Here , , and . These examples show the two extreme cases: a pure Mal'cev step, and a chain of Jónsson terms with the third projection. Non-example: with , the terms and are not Gumm terms in a nontrivial variety, since clause 6 reads .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
