Haar measure on the p-adic numbers
Builds on p-adic numberp-adic integerp-adic absolute valueExistence and uniqueness of Haar measure
Example
Let be a prime, and let be the field of p-adic numbers with the p-adic absolute value . Let be the ring of p-adic integers. The additive group is locally compact, and is a compact open subgroup. By the existence and uniqueness of Haar measure, there is a unique Haar measure on with .
Its values on balls follow from invariance alone. For , the subgroup has index in , so is a disjoint union of translates of . These translates have equal measure, hence for every . For , the ball is a disjoint union of translates of , so again . Since , the ball has measure equal to its radius .
More generally, for every with and every Borel set .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
