Halo mass function
Summary
The halo mass function gives the number density of dark matter halos per unit mass, as a function of mass and redshift. It is a central prediction of a cosmological model, because it depends on the matter power spectrum and on the growth of structure. Counts of galaxy clusters compare with its high-mass tail and so constrain the amount of matter and the amplitude of fluctuations.
