Hankel operator

Summary

A Hankel operator is a bounded operator on ℓ2\ell^2 whose matrix (aj+k)j,k≥0(a_{j+k})_{j,k \ge 0} is constant along each anti-diagonal, an infinite Hankel matrix. Up to a unitary identification of the spaces, the same operators arise in a function form. They are the maps f↦(I−P)(φf)f \mapsto (I - P)(\varphi f) from the Hardy space H2H^2 to L2⊖H2L^2 \ominus H^2 on the circle. Here φ\varphi is a bounded symbol and PP is the projection onto H2H^2. Hankel operators are close relatives of Toeplitz operators and appear in rational approximation, control theory and prediction theory. Nehari's theorem describes the bounded ones, and Kronecker's theorem the ones of finite rank.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
