Definition
A Helmert transformation is a map of the form Here is a translation vector and is a real number, the scale change. The matrix is a rotation matrix. In geodesy is given by three small angles , in radians, and replaced by its linear approximation The seven numbers are its parameters.
Remarks
Example: m, , moves every point m along the -axis; it preserves all distances, as . Non-example: the map is not a Helmert transformation, since it scales the axes by different factors. A Helmert transformation is a similarity transformation: it multiplies all distances by and preserves angles. Two sign conventions for the angles are in use, the position vector and the coordinate frame conventions; they differ by the sign of . It is applied to Cartesian coordinates; geodetic coordinates are converted to Cartesian form first.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
