Definition
Let and be topological spaces. Let be a multivalued function from to , that is, a map that sends each to a nonempty subset . Let .
- is upper hemicontinuous at if the following holds for every open set with . There is a neighbourhood of with for all .
- is lower hemicontinuous at if the following holds for every open set with . There is a neighbourhood of with for all .
is upper (lower) hemicontinuous if it is so at every point of , and continuous if it is both.
Remarks
Some authors say upper and lower semicontinuous instead of hemicontinuous. If for a function , then each of the two conditions is equivalent to the continuity of at .
Example: let with and for . It is upper hemicontinuous at : an open contains , so for all .
Non-example: the same is not lower hemicontinuous at . The open set meets , but for every .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
