Homogeneous ideal

Builds on Graded ringIdealIdeal generated by a subset

Definition

Let R=⨁n≥0RnR = \bigoplus_{n \ge 0} R_n be a graded ring. An ideal II of RR is homogeneous if for every f∈If \in I with homogeneous components fn∈Rnf_n \in R_n, each fnf_n lies in II.

Remarks

Equivalent conditions: I=⨁n≥0(I∩Rn)I = \bigoplus_{n \ge 0} (I \cap R_n); and II is generated by homogeneous elements. Example: in k[x,y,z]k[x, y, z], with kk a field, the ideal (x2−yz)(x^2 - yz) is homogeneous, since it is generated by the homogeneous element x2−yzx^2 - yz. Non-example: in k[x]k[x] the ideal (x−1)(x - 1) is not homogeneous; it contains x−1x - 1, whose component −1-1 of degree 00 is a unit and does not lie in the proper ideal (x−1)(x - 1). If II is homogeneous, then R/IR/I is graded by the images of the RnR_n. The ideal R+=⨁n≥1RnR_+ = \bigoplus_{n \ge 1} R_n is homogeneous; it is called the irrelevant ideal.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
