Inductance
Summary
Inductance is the ratio of the magnetic flux linked by an electric circuit to the current that produces it. Self-inductance relates a circuit to its own current, and mutual inductance relates one circuit to the current in another. By Faraday's law of induction, it also gives the voltage induced in a circuit when a current changes. It depends only on the shape and position of the circuits and on the surrounding material, not on the current.
