Interval of convergence

Definition

Let ∑an(x−c)n\sum a_n (x - c)^n be a real power series. Its interval of convergence is the set of real numbers xx for which the series converges.

Remarks

Let RR be the radius of convergence. The interval of convergence contains (c−R,c+R)(c - R, c + R) and lies in [c−R,c+R][c - R, c + R]. Each endpoint must be checked on its own. For ∑xn/n\sum x^n / n, the interval is [−1,1)[-1, 1). For ∑xn\sum x^n it is (−1,1)(-1, 1), and for ∑xn/n2\sum x^n / n^2 it is [−1,1][-1, 1].

Explanations

L1 human

The radius of convergence fixes the interval up to its two endpoints. At each endpoint the series may converge or diverge, so the interval may be open, closed, or half open.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 7 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
