Example
Let be an infinite connected graph with finite degrees, and let . Give each edge an independent weight , uniform on ; almost surely all weights are distinct. Invasion percolation from builds clusters . Start with . Given , choose the edge of smallest weight among the edges with exactly one endpoint in . Let be together with the other endpoint of that edge. The invasion cluster is .
Check on with and weights , , , . Step 1 compares and and adds the vertex . Step 2 compares and and adds . Step 3 compares and and adds . After crossing the high weight , the invasion at once uses the low weight behind it.
Remarks
The rule is the same as Prim's algorithm for a minimum spanning tree, run on an infinite graph from ; see Prim's algorithm. For , the edges with form bond percolation with parameter , so the model couples all values of at once. Let , and let be above the percolation threshold of . On the invasion eventually reaches the infinite cluster of edges with weight at most . From then on it never accepts an edge of weight larger than . So the invasion finds the critical value by itself, without any parameter being tuned, and its cluster looks like a large critical percolation cluster. This makes it a standard example of self-organized criticality.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
