Inverse mean curvature flow
Builds on Mean curvatureRiemannian manifold
Definition
Let be a Riemannian manifold of dimension , let be a closed manifold of dimension , and let . A family of immersions is a solution of inverse mean curvature flow if for every :
- the hypersurface has an outward unit normal ;
- the mean curvature of with respect to , the sum of the principal curvatures, is positive everywhere;
- for all ,
Remarks
Example: in take the sphere of radius about the origin. Its mean curvature is , so the speed required by clause 3 is , and indeed . Its area is times the area of . Non-example: a hypersurface with a point where fails clause 2, and the flow cannot start from it. A torus of revolution in with tube radius and center circle of radius has such points on its inner circle. Under the flow the area element is multiplied by in general, since its time derivative is times itself.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
