Definition
Let be a commutative ring. The ring is a Jacobson ring if every prime ideal is the intersection of the maximal ideals that contain .
Remarks
Example: is a Jacobson ring. A nonzero prime ideal is maximal, and the prime equals , because a nonzero integer has only finitely many prime divisors.
Non-example: the localization is not a Jacobson ring. Its only maximal ideal is , so the intersection of the maximal ideals containing the prime is .
Equivalent forms: is Jacobson if and only if every radical ideal is an intersection of maximal ideals. It is also equivalent that for every ideal , the nilradical of equals its Jacobson radical. Some texts use the name Hilbert ring.
