Definition
Let be a Jordan algebra over , with product , and write . A JB-algebra structure on is a norm on such that for all :
- is complete for the metric ;
- ;
- ;
- .
Remarks
Example: the real symmetric matrices with and the operator norm. Clause 1 holds in finite dimension, and clause 2 follows from . For clauses 3 and 4, is the largest absolute value of an eigenvalue, so , and as positive semidefinite matrices.
Non-example: with the componentwise product and the norm fails clause 3. For one has but . With the norm instead, it is a JB-algebra.
The self-adjoint part of a C*-algebra, with , is a JB-algebra.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
