Koszul duality
Definition
Let be a field and let be a finite-dimensional vector space over , with dual space . Let be a subspace. Let be the quotient of the tensor algebra by the two-sided ideal generated by ; such an is a quadratic algebra. Identify with , and let be the set of forms that vanish on . The quadratic dual of is . Koszul duality is the correspondence between Koszul algebras, together with the induced relations between their module categories.
Remarks
The construction is an involution: , because in finite dimension. If is Koszul, then is Koszul, and the algebra is isomorphic to (some conventions give the opposite algebra). For Koszul the Hilbert series satisfy . Example: let be the symmetric algebra, so is spanned by the tensors . A form on vanishes on exactly when it is symmetric, so is the space of symmetric tensors, spanned by the tensors and . Hence is the exterior algebra, and , for .
