Krein space

Definition
Let be a complex vector space and let be a Hermitian form on . The pair is a Krein space if there are subspaces and of such that:
- as a direct sum of vector spaces.
- for all and .
- is a Hilbert space.
- is a Hilbert space.
Such a splitting is a fundamental decomposition of .
Remarks
Let be the projections of onto along the decomposition, and let . Then is a Hilbert space inner product on , and . The map is the fundamental symmetry; the decomposition is not unique, but all the norms are equivalent. If has finite dimension , the space is a Pontryagin space .
Example: with , and . Clause 2 holds since , and on and on are positive definite. The vector satisfies , so the form is indefinite.
Non-example: with . The vector satisfies for every . In a Krein space, write ; then forces , and in the same way . So the form of a Krein space is nondegenerate, and this degenerate form admits no fundamental decomposition.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
