Legendre

Summary

Legendre symbol: If pp is an odd prime number and aa is an integer, the value of (ap)\left(\frac{a}{p}\right) is 11 if aa is a quadratic residue modulo pp; it is −1-1 if aa is a quadratic non-residue modulo pp; it is 00 if pp divides aa. The same notation is used for the Jacobi symbol and Kronecker symbol, which are generalizations where pp is respectively any odd positive integer, or any integer.
