Linear and stable summation methods
Builds on Summability method
Definition
Let be or , and let be a summability method. Write for the -sum of an -summable series with terms in .
- is linear if, whenever and are -summable and , the series is -summable and .
- is stable if, for every sequence , the series is -summable if and only if is -summable, and then .
Remarks
Example: ordinary summation of convergent series is linear and stable, by the limit rules for sums and because shifting the partial sums by does not affect convergence. Cesàro summation is also linear and stable. Non-example: zeta function regularization assigns the value ; stability would give for this value, so this method is not stable. In terms of the partial sums , linearity says that is a vector space and is a linear map on it.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
