Linear continuum
Builds on Total orderSupremum
Definition
Let be a set with more than one element and let be a total order on . The ordered set is a linear continuum if:
- Every nonempty subset of that is bounded above has a least upper bound, a supremum, in .
- For all with , there is with .
Remarks
The real line is a linear continuum: clause 1 is the completeness of , and for clause 2 one takes . The integers satisfy clause 1, but they fail clause 2, since there is no integer strictly between and . The rationals satisfy clause 2 but fail clause 1: the set is bounded above but has no least upper bound in . The square with the dictionary order is a linear continuum that is not order isomorphic to an interval of . A linear continuum and each of its intervals are connected in the order topology.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
