Linear equation
Definition
Let be a field and let be an integer. A linear equation over in the unknowns is an equation of the form where the coefficients are elements of . The constant term is also an element of the field. A solution of the equation is a tuple such that .
Remarks
The equation over is linear, and is a solution. The equation is not linear, because it has a product of two unknowns. Over with , the solutions of a linear equation with form a line in the plane.
Explanations
L1 human
A linear equation adds up the unknowns, each one times a fixed number, and sets the sum equal to a fixed number. No unknown is squared, and no two unknowns are multiplied together. With two unknowns over the real numbers, the solutions usually draw a straight line, and this gives the name "linear".
What this node needs for W2
- edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
- edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
