Linear extension
Builds on Partial orderTotal order
Definition
Let be a set and let be a partial order on . A linear extension of is a total order on such that implies for all .
Remarks
Example: on ordered by divisibility, the usual order is a linear extension, because each divisor of a positive integer is at most that integer. Non-example: the order is total but not a linear extension, because and yet . If is finite with elements, a linear extension is the same as a bijection with whenever . The number of linear extensions of a finite poset is often written . A total order has exactly one linear extension, itself, and an antichain with elements has .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
