Modular representation theory

Summary

Modular representation theory studies representations of a finite group GG over a field whose characteristic pp divides the order of GG. In this case Maschke's theorem fails, so representations need not split into irreducible pieces, and the group algebra is not semisimple. Brauer developed the theory, with tools such as Brauer characters, blocks, defect groups and the Cartan matrix. It links ordinary characters in characteristic 00 with representations over finite fields through reduction modulo pp.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
