NC
Builds on Boolean circuitLFormal language
Definition
Let . Consider Boolean circuits with AND and OR gates of fan-in and NOT gates. A language is in if there are a polynomial , a constant and such circuits such that, for all :
- has inputs and at most gates;
- every path from an input to the output of passes through at most gates;
- for every , if and only if ;
- a deterministic Turing machine computes a description of from using space .
The class NC is .
Remarks
Example: the parity language is in . The exclusive or uses a constant number of gates and has constant depth. A balanced binary tree of such blocks over the inputs has gates and depth , and it is easy to describe in logarithmic space.
Non-example: let be a chain of exclusive-or blocks. This family also computes parity, but its depth grows linearly in , so it fails clause 2 for every .
Clause 4 is logspace uniformity; other uniformity conditions give the same class . The known inclusions are L NL and .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
