Newtonian fluid
Summary
A Newtonian fluid is a fluid whose viscous stress depends linearly on the strain rate tensor. Its viscosity is a constant of the material that does not depend on how fast the fluid is sheared. Water, air and most simple liquids and gases are Newtonian to high accuracy. The Navier–Stokes equations are the equations of motion of a Newtonian fluid.
