Fluid mechanics Foundations and kinematics of flow Concept
Strain rate tensor
Summary
The strain rate tensor is the symmetric part of the gradient of the velocity field of a flow. It measures how fast a small fluid parcel is being stretched and sheared, as opposed to rotated. Its trace is the rate of change of volume, and in a Newtonian fluid the viscous stress is a linear function of it.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
