Nutation
Summary
Nutation is the nodding of the axis of a spinning body: an oscillation of the angle between the axis and a fixed direction. It usually comes on top of precession, so that the axis traces a wavy path around the fixed direction. For a heavy symmetric top it is periodic and can be computed exactly. The Earth's axis also nutates, mainly with a period of about years, due to the changing torque of the Moon.
