Opposite structure
Builds on Binary operationGroup
Definition
Let be a binary operation on a set . The opposite of is , where for all . For a structure with several operations, such as a ring, the opposite structure reverses the chosen multiplication and keeps all other operations and constants.
Remarks
Example: if is a group, then is a group with the same identity and the same inverses. Associativity holds since . The map is an isomorphism from to its opposite, because .
Non-example: for real matrices, the opposite multiplication is not the same operation as the usual one, because the matrices do not all commute. The transpose is still an isomorphism from the matrix ring to its opposite, because .
Common notations are and . The opposite of the opposite is the original structure.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
