Order of cardinals

Definition

Let AA and BB be sets. The cardinality of AA is at most the cardinality of BB, written ∣A∣≤∣B∣|A| \le |B|, when there is an injective function f ⁣:A→Bf \colon A \to B. Write ∣A∣<∣B∣|A| < |B| when ∣A∣≤∣B∣|A| \le |B| and ∣A∣≠∣B∣|A| \neq |B|.

Remarks

The relation does not depend on the choice of AA and BB in their classes of equinumerous sets. It is reflexive and transitive. It is antisymmetric by the Schröder–Bernstein theorem. With the axiom of choice, any two cardinals are comparable. See comparability of cardinals.

Explanations

L1 human

∣A∣≤∣B∣|A| \le |B| means that AA fits into BB without two elements landing in the same place. For example, ∣N∣≤∣R∣|\mathbb{N}| \le |\mathbb{R}|, because N\mathbb{N} is a subset of R\mathbb{R}.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What depends on this
