Definition
Let be a ring with identity. Let be a multiplicative set: and for all . The set satisfies the right Ore condition if for all and there exist and with Equivalently, for all and . The left Ore condition asks instead for and with . A right Ore domain is a domain such that satisfies the right Ore condition.
Remarks
Example: if is commutative, every multiplicative set satisfies both Ore conditions: take and . Every right Noetherian domain is a right Ore domain.
Non-example: let be a field and the free algebra, with . Each nonzero element of is a combination of words beginning with , and each nonzero element of is a combination of words beginning with . So , while since is a domain. Hence and the right Ore condition fails for and .
The right Ore condition says that a left fraction can be rewritten as a right fraction , since gives once and are invertible. A multiplicative set that satisfies the right Ore condition and is right reversible (if with , then for some ) is a right denominator set. If contains no zero divisors, reversibility is automatic.
