Orlicz space

Summary

Fix a convex growth function Φ\Phi. The Orlicz space LΦ(μ)L^\Phi(\mu) consists of the measurable functions ff for which Φ(∣f∣)\Phi(\abs{f}) is integrable after scaling ff. The choice Φ(t)=tp\Phi(t) = t^p gives the Lp space LpL^p, so Orlicz spaces generalise the LpL^p scale. They are Banach spaces with the Luxemburg norm. They describe integrability conditions that lie between the LpL^p spaces, such as Llog⁡LL \log L, which appears in the theory of maximal functions and singular integrals.
