Outcome
Definition
Let be a sample space of a random experiment. An outcome of the experiment is an element of .
Remarks
Two different outcomes cannot both happen in one trial. An outcome gives the event , an elementary event. An outcome and an event are different things: an event is a set of outcomes. For a roll of a die, the outcomes are , and "the result is even" is the event , not an outcome.
Explanations
