Periodic function

Definition

Let f ⁣:R→Rf \colon \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R} be a function and let TT be a real number. The number TT is a period of ff if f(x+T)=f(x)f(x + T) = f(x) for all x∈Rx \in \mathbb{R}. The function ff is periodic if it has a period T≠0T \ne 0.

Remarks

If TT is a period, then so is kTk T for each integer kk. The sine function is periodic with period 2π2 \pi. If a continuous periodic function is not constant, it has a smallest positive period. The Dirichlet function has every rational number as a period. Mathlib defines periods as Function.Periodic.

Explanations

L1 human

A periodic function repeats itself after each step of length TT. Its graph is made of copies of one piece, placed side by side.

What this node needs for W2
  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What depends on this

1 node uses this node, directly or through other nodes.
