Plünnecke–Ruzsa inequality
Builds on SumsetAbelian group
Statement
Let be an abelian group, and let and be finite nonempty subsets of . Let be a real number. Suppose that the sumset satisfies . Then for all integers with , Here is the set of all with all .
Remarks
Petridis gave a short proof. Choose a nonempty that minimizes the ratio , and call the minimum , so . He showed that for every finite set , and induction gives . The Ruzsa triangle inequality then handles the differences. With , a set with satisfies , so small doubling controls all iterated sums. For one has , and indeed .

For a student
The Plünnecke–Ruzsa inequality is a basic tool in additive combinatorics. It is used in the proof of Freiman's theorem. It is often combined with the Balog–Szemerédi–Gowers theorem. Plünnecke's original proof used a graph-theoretic argument with layered commutative graphs, and Ruzsa turned it into the form above.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
