Proof that abelian groups are solvable

Proof
- Let be an abelian group, and let and .
- The subgroup is normal in , because for each .
- So is a subnormal series of of length .
- Its only factor is the quotient group . For we have , because is abelian.
- So the factor is abelian, and is solvable by definition.
Idea
The shortest possible series, from the trivial group straight to , already works. Its single factor is a copy of , which is abelian.
