Proximal operator
Definition
Let be a real Hilbert space with norm . Let be a convex, lower semicontinuous function that is not identically . The proximal operator of is the map given by
Remarks
The minimizer exists and is unique, since the function being minimized is lower semicontinuous, strongly convex and tends to as . Equivalently, exactly when lies in the subdifferential . Example: let be nonempty, closed and convex, and let be on and outside. Then is finite only on , so is the point of nearest to , the projection of onto . Example: for on with , one finds , the soft thresholding map. Non-example: let be on and elsewhere on , so is not convex. At both and minimize , so no single proximal point is defined.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
