Quasi-coherent sheaf

Definition
Let be a ring and an -module. For , let be the basic open set of where does not vanish. The sheaf on is the unique sheaf of modules with for every , with restriction maps given by localization. Let be a scheme. A sheaf of -modules is quasi-coherent if has a cover by open sets with the following property. Each is an affine scheme , and for some -module .
Remarks
On , the sheaf of an ideal is quasi-coherent, with the cover by itself. Let be a discrete valuation ring with fraction field , and , with the generic point. The sheaf with and is an -module but is not quasi-coherent. The only open set containing is , so would force and then . If is quasi-coherent, then for every affine open , not only for those of the chosen cover. On a general ringed space, is called quasi-coherent if it is locally the cokernel of a map between free modules; on schemes the two definitions agree.
