Definition
Let be a normed vector space over or , and let be a linear subspace of that is closed. The quotient normed space is the quotient vector space with the norm The map , , is the quotient map.
Remarks
The number is the distance from to . Closedness of is what makes this a norm: means that is in the closure of , hence in . The quotient map satisfies and maps the open unit ball of onto the open unit ball of . If is a Banach space, then so is . Example: in with the Euclidean norm, let ; then , which is a norm on . Example: in with , one has . Non-example: in , the subspace of finitely supported sequences is dense but not closed; every has , so the formula gives only a seminorm on .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
