Rate of convergence
Builds on Real sequenceLimit of a sequence
Definition
Let be a real sequence that converges to a limit , with for all . Let be the error at step .
- The sequence converges linearly with rate if for some .
- It converges superlinearly if , and sublinearly if .
- For a real number , it converges with order if for some .
Order is called quadratic convergence and order cubic convergence. The same definitions apply to sequences in a normed space, with .
Remarks
Example: tends to , and , so it converges linearly with rate . Example: tends to , and , so it converges quadratically. Non-example of clause 1: tends to , but , so it converges only sublinearly. These notions are often called Q-linear and Q-quadratic convergence, where Q stands for "quotient". A weaker notion, R-convergence, asks only that for some sequence that tends to with the given order.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
