Real form of a Lie group

Summary

A real form of a complex Lie group GℂG_\C is a closed real Lie subgroup GG. Its Lie algebra must be a real form of the Lie algebra of GℂG_\C. So GG has half the real dimension of GℂG_\C, and complexifying its Lie algebra gives back that of GℂG_\C. One complex group has several real forms, for example SLn(ℝ)\mathrm{SL}_n(\R) and SU(n)\mathrm{SU}(n) in SLn(ℂ)\mathrm{SL}_n(\C). The classification of real semisimple groups is largely the classification of real forms of complex semisimple groups.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)
