Definition
Let be a nonempty set and let be a filter on . Let be a family of algebras of the same signature, and let be their direct product. Define on the universe of by if and only if . The reduced product is the quotient algebra .
Remarks
The relation is a congruence on . Reflexivity uses , and transitivity uses that is closed under finite intersections and supersets. Compatibility holds because contains the intersection of the sets .
Example: if , then is equality and the reduced product is the direct product itself. If for some nonempty , the reduced product is isomorphic to .
Non-example: on , the family is not a filter, since . With it, the analogous relation on is not transitive: is related to , which is related to , but and agree only on .
When is an ultrafilter, the reduced product is the ultraproduct .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
