Renewal theory

Definition
Let be independent and identically distributed random variables with values in and . Let and for ; these are the renewal times. The renewal process with holding times is the process Its renewal function is . Renewal theory is the study of , of , and of processes that start afresh at the times .
Remarks
The condition makes almost surely, so is finite for each . Example: if the are exponential with rate , then is the Poisson process of rate , and . Non-example: if are not identically distributed, for instance , then is not a renewal process, and here for . Let be the expected value of a holding time. The elementary renewal theorem says as , with ; the strong law gives almost surely.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
