Definition
Let be a complex Banach space with identity map , and let be a continuous linear map with spectrum . The resolvent set of is . The resolvent of is the function where is the space of bounded operators on and the inverse is the bounded inverse.
Remarks
Some authors use instead, which changes the sign. The resolvent set is open, and is a holomorphic function with values in . It satisfies the resolvent identity and .
Example: for on and , is the diagonal operator with entries .
Non-example: is not in , since is not surjective. Indeed is in but is not, so is not in the image of . Hence is not defined.
The same definitions apply to closed operators, with .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
